History:
Liquid Semen Production started in K.P.K at S.P.U. Peshawar in 1978.
Frozen Semen Production started at S.P.U. Mera Surizai, Peshawar in 1982.
The S.P.U. was shifted to Harichand in 1999, in the existing Cattle Breeding & Dairy Far.
New SPU building was established in 2004.
Activities:
Care and Management of the Breeding Bulls
Collection of Semen from Adult Bulls of different Cattle & Buffalo Breeds Dilution of Semen, Filling of Diluted Semen in Printed Semen Straws Freezing of Semen in Liquid Nitrogen, and Transportation of Frozen Semen to Semen Bank Peshawar for further distribution to all Districts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa Province
Recently Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) have been adopted on the directives of the Director Breed Improvement & Farms to define strategy for preparing individual Bulls Printed Semen Straws related to the specified Bulls for producing progeny tested Bulls which are available for certain Districts /Tehsils of the province

Sheep and Goat Insemination and Buck Semen Production
For the first time in the history of semen production in KP 2077 doses of buck semen produced from Beetal Bucks in 2014-15 and goats were successfully inseminated in many districts, the progeny received for the first time in PAKISTAN. Semen production from bucks is in progress in SPU Harichand.
